Leakage Yard on Cyber is MWA’s practical solution to reduce non-revenue water. It is a computer program that simulates the water leakage sound in the pipe system together with other disturbance noises which are considered obstacles of pipe leakage exploration such as noise from refrigerators, cars, transformers and winds.
The program is divided into two parts. The theoretical part comprises various sound wave audio frequencies and real water leakage sounds collected from different sites such as water leakage under concrete roads, under asphalt concrete roads, water leakage with car running sounds. The practical part consists of a mix of 50 sounds to test the listening skills of the users/listeners.
Leakage Yard on Cyber benefits MWA in two ways. The first is to transfer knowledge on detecting pipe leakage to the new technician without place and time constraints. Pipe leakage surveying technicians can use this program as a sound lab to learn, practice, test and evaluate. Secondly, Leakage Yard on Cyber helps the organization detect the exact location of the pipe leak, saving costs in digging and repairing the road surface as well as helps reduce water loss.
