Aadhaar Face Authentication is a singular and unique ground breaking AI/ML based innovation developed in-house by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). This modality was introduced in addition to finger and Iris to strengthen the authentication ecosystem, benefiting individuals who face challenges with fingerprint authentication due to worn-out minutiae, common among laborers and senior citizens.
This modality is within the context of India's unique needs and challenges. To date, there are 80 active users including the central ministries, state government departments, banks, non-banking financial companies, telecoms and oil marketing companies. With transactions approaching 94 million per month, this number is expected to reach 1 billion soon.
