Dubai Police “Next 50 Innovation HUB” is a
transformational initiative that was launched in
2017. Dubai Police choose the number 50 because it
coincides with the Golden Jubilee of the United Arab
Emirates. In 2017, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid
Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the
UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, launched the UAE Centennial
Plan 2071 to provide a road map for the future of the
UAE beyond 2021. Counting from 2021 to 2071, the
number 50 provides a template that helps people
focus on the transformation that the Centennial Plan
will bring to the country.
When H.E. Lt. General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri,
Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, launched the
initiative, his vision was to transform the Dubai Police
innovation ecosystem and engage young officers
in the innovation process. While Dubai Police has
always been a hub for innovation, further effort
was needed to redesign the current innovation
system, restructure the organisation and reorganise
units and empower young recruits to adjust to the
demographic changes taking place in the society.
The initiative was a large-scale transformation and
was led by the innovation team. Lt. Colonel Dr. Ibrahim
BenSbaa, head of the innovation team, describes the
components of the initiative as follow: Rethinking
strategy, reorganising teams, re-engineering the
process, training employees, building the culture,
and measuring progress. Dubai Police now is
among the top police forces in the world on many
key performance indicators that relate to crime
prevention and crime reduction, police confidence,
road safety, and emergency response time.
